Because Jeanne Cavelos, the founder and director of the Odyssey Writing Workshops, and Scott H. Andrews, Odyssey graduate and founder and editor of Beneath Ceaseless Skies Magazine, have each been nominated for World Fantasy Awards! The World Fantasy Convention and award ceremony will take place next month in Saratoga Springs, New York–and until then we’re all on the edge of our seats.

Odyssey Graduates Discuss Their Recent Writers of the Future Wins
Matthew S. Rotundo attended Odyssey in 1998. In addition to Writers of the Future Volume XXV, Matt’s stories have appeared in Jim Baen’s Universe, Cosmos, and Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show. Krista Hoeppner Leahy attended the Odyssey in 2007. Her work has been published in Writers of the Future Volume XXV, Shimmer, and flashquake. She is a member of Codex, the online writing community, and also the Fantastic Saloon–a group of NYC-based authors. She lives with her husband in Brooklyn, NY. Krista placed third in the fourth quarter of the 25th Annual Writers of the Future Contest.

Congratulations to David J. Schwartz, class of 1996, for his 2008 Nebula nomination. Published by Three Rivers Press, an imprint of Random House, Superpowers is Schwartz’s debut novel, and this is his first nomination in the Novel category.
David J. Schwartz’s short fiction has appeared in numerous markets, including the anthologies Paper Cities, The Best of Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet, and Twenty Epics. He attended Odyssey in 1996 and has participated in workshops with the Semi-Omniscients, the Supersonics, and the Sycamore Hill Writing Workshop. He lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Congratulations to Krista Hoeppner Leahy, class of 2007, for her third place finish in the 4th quarter of the 25th annual Writers of the Future Contest! Krista’s story “The Dizzy Bridge” will be available in the 25th volume of the L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future anthology, available later this year. “The Dizzy Bridge” will be her first professional-level publication.
